The Nerdy Girlie's 5 Fandom Friday! My Must See List of Halloween TV

Have I mentioned I love The Nerdy Girlie? She's so much fun!  This week, the 5 Fandom Friday is a list of Must See Halloween TV...or movies...or books. I'm tweaking it a bit.

I love October. I love autumn, leaves, the crisp air, and, of course, Halloween. I am fascinated by ghost stories, haunted history, and gothic literature. It was really, really hard to settle on only five...

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Because it's Tim Burton. Because it's Jack Skellington. Because This is Halloween.

The Corpse Bride

I have heard mixed reviews for this film over the years, but I agree with "A Piece of Genius." I almost - yikes - like it better than The Nightmare Before Christmas. Why? Johnny Depp. Enough said.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

This has always been my favorite American legend, ghost story, and Halloween read. This printing comes from my American Gothic Tales collection, edited by Joyce Carol Oates. There are a lot of fantastic ghost stories in this collection, but mine will always been Irving's legend about the Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

This is one of my favorite books of all time. The fantasy, the drama, the romance...this book has it all. The evil. The vampires. Yeah, that too. And I like the way it's written all in journal entry form (kind of). But really, I just love this book.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and anything by Edgar Allan Poe

Yes, I realize I have sneaked these two in together. But really, it's true that anything by Poe is fitting for Halloween. I put in Frankenstein because it's another iconic Halloween image, and it's just been way too long since I read it.

So there you go - my Halloween 5! Thanks, Nerdy Girlie!
